First of all, I apologize for my absence at the end of last week; my friend Jennifer came to visit, and we had a whirlwind (long) weekend of cooking, exploring Portland, knitting, and talking (and talking, and talking, and talking).

In keeping with the fiber-filled theme of our weekend, one of our stops – perhaps my favorite – was an alpaca farm.

Alpacas and Cria!

These were adorable – in keeping with their reputation as the most mild-mannered of camelids, they were watchful and curious, intrigued (and unbothered) by the visitors.  We did not have an appointment, and did not do more than look at them over the fence, but it was an excellent visit nonetheless, the kind that makes me wonder how much it would cost to obtain and care for a small flock….

In short: Hooray for Alpacas.

  1. Yay alpacas, and alpaca yarn! Just found out there is a wool mill only a few miles away that sells some yarn – not a huge variety, but locally produced (this is a historic sheep-raising region – in the spring, there is a sheep festival, including a lamb rodeo for kids?!?). I had a great trip, thanks for posting the photos!
